Jerry Wayne Goos

        Jerry Wayne Goos, 71, of Lake Charles died at 8:48 AM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in a local hospital. Mr. Goos was born in Lake Charles on June 17, 1941. He was a proud descendant of Captain Daniel W. Goos and was raised in Goosport. Mr. Goos was a graduate of Lake Charles High School where he played football. Mr. Goos received a degree in business from McNeese State University and was a lettered football player. He served in the U.S. Army.
        He worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department as a tax collector and was a member of the Louisiana Sheriff ’s Association. Mr. Goos also worked as sales manager for KPLC, worked for G. Russell Chambers and Associates, was the general manager and part owner of KYKZ 96, and was general manager of Apex Broadcasting. Mr. Goos belonged to and was involved in many organizations and charities. He was an usher and was a very active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Mr. Goos was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed cooking. He also loved traveling.
        Those to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sheila Goos of Lake Charles; a son, Dan Goos of Lake Charles; a sister, Mary Lynn Lafargue of Alexandria; three step children, Kevin Clooney of Kansas, Christie Monticello, and Kimberly Turton both of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Payton Monticello, Caymn Turton, and Camryn, Kerrigan, and Addison Clooney.
        He was preceded in death by his parents, Rena and Walter J. Goos; his first wife, Perla Goos; and five siblings.
         A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. Jack Myers will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Wednesday in the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue on Thursday in the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
